Lake Blackshear

Earl Gammage and Norman Bass from Americus, Ga. took advantage of their knowledge of Lake Blackshear and took First Place and a check for $1,120.00 by fishing June bug colored worms and crank baits. They caught their five fish limit by 10:00am and their winning catch tipped the scales at 13.90 lbs.

Ronny Cantrell from Fitzgerald, Ga. and Tommy Sweeney from Waycross, Ga. could never get that very elusive fifth keeper to limit out but their four fish weight was 12.84 lbs and was good enough to earn a $560.00 Second Place check.  Their technique consisted of cranking shell beds outside bedding areas with Rattle Traps and Ruby Red Lips custom crank baits. Their fish were caught from 9:00am up until 1:00pm.

Third Place and a check for $280.00 went to Ron Visage and Glen Bush from Americus, Ga. They flipped lizards all day long putting 11 fish in the boat with a five fish limit of 12.34 lbs.

Jimmy Sharp and Danny Blount from Leesburg, Ga. fished jigs early morning to catch their three fish for the day. Their total weight for the day was 11.70 lbs which included the Big Fish for the day of 6.70 lbs. Their efforts were rewarded with checks of $250.00 for 4th place and $280.00 for BIG FISH sponsored by Charley’s & Mor Gifts from Cordele, Ga. for a total of $530.00 for the day.

Fifth Place and a check for $225.00 went to Dwayne (Pie) Smith and Mark Gooding from Americus, Ga. with a five fish weight of 10.98 lbs

Jerry Johnson from Cordele, Ga. won our Grand Raffle Prize, a 10 drawer rolling tool chest, sponsored by Home Depot out of Cordele, Ga.  The estimated value of the prize was $229.00 or more.

Our special volunteers for the day were Ernie and Louise Bush, Chris Mitchell, Jeremy Mitchell, Ginger Mitchell, Cannon Mitchell (almost 3 years old) and our special guest from Marion Co. High School FCCLA were Mrs. Deborah Ford, Mrs. Megan Scott, Ms. Steffanie Hadley and Ms.Devan Hagler.

The weather was absolutely wonderful with clear skies, no wind, and 73 degrees and leading up to this event the fish had being tearing it up and we expected twice the fish , twice the weights, everyone to limit out, and a big fish for the day of approximately 8 to 9 lbs. but that is why they call it fishing!

We had 28 teams fishing that weighed in 63 fish for a total weight for the day of 153.60 lbs. Our total Cash Pay-Out for the day was $2,715.00
